2024\u20132025, as part of the European project <a href=\"https:\/\/optit.sviluppo.host\/en\/progetto-finanziato\/tuples\/\">TUPLES \u2013 Trustworthy AI<\/a>, the European aerospace leader <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airbus.com\/en\">AIRBUS<\/a> partnered with Optit to design and manage a competition on a <strong>logistics planning<\/strong> problem, focused on the storage and load planning of cargo for the <strong>Airbus Beluga XL<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These cargo aircraft require a <\/span><b>complex load movement<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, both inbound and outbound, managed through a <\/span>bidirectional, multi-queue rack system.<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> From this complexity arose the need to launch a <\/span><b>competition<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to assess different approaches proposed by the scientific community across three key areas:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>deterministic and probabilistic scenarios<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, to optimise load plans under fixed or uncertain conditions linked to arrivals and departures;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>explainability<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, to clarify infeasibility issues and propose alternative solutions.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To address this challenge, <b>Optit developed a Competition Platform<\/b> designed to manage complex competitions and accurately replicate real-world industrial cases.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The platform enables the <\/span><b>simulation of realistic and complex industrial scenarios<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, ensuring <\/span>repeatable, traceable and reliable assessments<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, both in terms of performance and solution quality.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Key features of the Competition Platform include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">iterative evaluations using algorithms under probabilistic conditions;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>integrated GenAI with LLM<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> available to participants for explainability challenges;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">isolated, reproducible executions automatically orchestrated by the Optit platform, designed to ensure <\/span><b>robustness and reliability<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The impact was significant for both participants and organisers: a <b>real and high-level testbed<\/b> for researchers and professionals in the fields of decision-making and Trustworthy AI.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Participants engaged with <\/span><b>real industrial use cases<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, working alongside experts and high-profile researchers, while the organisers benefited from an <\/span><b>adaptive and scalable platform<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that simplified the management and evaluation of the challenge throughout its entire lifecycle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our work provided <\/span>AIRBUS with a competition platform capable of managing challenges of varying complexity, integrating
