{"id":39526,"date":"2024-11-15T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-11-14T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/optit.sviluppo.host\/2024\/11\/15\/hybrid-intelligence-for-sustainable-logistics-the-mila-project\/"},"modified":"2026-06-16T08:53:17","modified_gmt":"2026-06-16T06:53:17","slug":"hybrid-intelligence-for-sustainable-logistics-the-mila-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/optit.sviluppo.host\/en\/events-2\/hybrid-intelligence-for-sustainable-logistics-the-mila-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Hybrid intelligence for sustainable Logistics: the MILA project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Optit has been selected as the lead partner in the MILA project (<strong>Hybrid Modelling to Support Decisions in the Logistics and Environmental Domain<\/strong>), part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/fondazione-fair.it\/en\/\">FAIR programme<\/a> promoted by the Italian Ministry of University and Research.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative, funded through the <a href=\"https:\/\/next-generation-eu.europa.eu\/index_en\">NextGenerationEU plan<\/a>, falls under Spoke 8 \u2013 &#8220;Pervasive AI&#8221; \u2013 coordinated by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unibo.it\/en\/homepage\">University of Bologna<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>With a duration of 10 months, MILA aims to explore and develop innovative <strong>hybrid approaches<\/strong> combining s<strong>ymbolic (knowledge-based) models<\/strong> and <strong>data-driven methods<\/strong> for advanced <strong>Decision Support Systems in Logistics<\/strong> and supply chain applications.<\/p>\n<p>The project leverages <a href=\"\/?page_id=27887\">Optit\u2019s extensive experience in Logistics optimisation<\/a> and applied artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n<p>MILA will focus on integrating AI and mathematical modelling into existing platforms to address complex problems in freight transport, intra-logistics, and waste management.<\/p>\n<p>Activities will include <strong>feasibility studies<\/strong>, i<strong>ndustrial research<\/strong> and <strong>experimental development<\/strong> of new hybrid models. These will enhance features such as vehicle routing, demand forecasting, service scheduling, and performance evaluation using real-world data from IoT and enterprise sources. The final goal is to enrich Optit&#8217;s technological assets with new functionalities and improve operational efficiency across different Logistics domains.<\/p>\n<h4><b><\/b><\/h4>\n<h4><b>An impactful collaboration for science and industry<\/b><\/h4>\n<p>The project is expected to deliver both <strong>technological and environmental benefits<\/strong>, by enabling more resource-efficient logistics processes and contributing to the broader advancement of data-driven innovation in the industry.<\/p>\n<p>By combining symbolic and AI-based techniques, MILA marks a significant step forward in <strong>applying hybrid intelligence to real-world operations<\/strong>, in line with the objectives of Industry 5.0 and the shift toward a <strong>sustainable, data-informed economy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The results of MILA will be shared with the University of Bologna and the wider research community through dedicated reports and, potentially, scientific publications.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><i>The MILA project has been funded under the FAIR programme (code PE00000013), as part of Italy\u2019s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), with
