In Europe, the district heating and cooling (DHC) sector presents significant economic and environmental opportunities. However, current training offerings fall short of preparing and updating the necessary number of professionals. Existing programs struggle to keep pace with technological advancements, regulatory changes, and evolving market demands, which may hinder innovation and compromise the transition to more sustainable and efficient energy systems.
To address these challenges, DHC Academy was created— a European initiative designed to equip current and future professionals with the essential skills needed to support decarbonization and bolster the continent’s energy resilience. The project integrates professional and academic training programs specifically crafted to meet the real challenges of the sector.
A State-of-the-Art Training Platform
The main objective of the initiative is to develop an accessible digital educational platform that aligns with market dynamics. This tool will provide innovative educational content, interactive opportunities, and tangible support to disseminate specialized and transferable skills across Europe. In particular, the project aims to overcome the limitations of traditional, fragmented curricula that are ill-suited for addressing the multidisciplinary nature of the DHC sector, thereby fostering a new generation of experts capable of driving sector transformation.
The Three Pillars of DHC Academy

- Digital Learning Platform: A modern training center offering tailor-made courses for both professional training and higher education, aligned with the needs of the sector and European training frameworks.
- European DHC Academy Alliance: A long-lasting collaborative network among universities, research centers, and leading companies, designed to ensure the platform’s sustainability and promote international knowledge exchange.
- Specialized Training Courses: The development and piloting of curricula dedicated to green technologies, digitization, and sustainability, targeting approximately 400 students and 200 professionals.
