Efficity
Optimising urban districts while slashing consumption and emissions.

Co-funded by the Emilia-Romagna Region through the POR-FESR program 2014–2020 and completed in 2019, the Efficity project had a clear objective: to demonstrate how advanced technologies can contribute to reducing energy consumption, CO₂ emissions and operating costs in urban districts.
Through the integration of monitoring systems and AI-based optimisation algorithms, the project explored the potential of smart district energy systems, i.e. smart grids capable of coordinating and balancing the supply and demand of energy, as well as integrating renewable sources.
Optit took part in the project as a business partner, offering up its digital platforms to optimise operations across the project’s energy networks. The outcome has demonstrated that smarter energy management in urban districts is not only achievable, but replicable.
Efficity represents an important step in the development of digital solutions that support local energy transition, providing concrete evidence for the potential role of algorithmic optimisation in urban sustainability.
