Since 2013, Optit has supported Alstom in the development of algorithms that keep rail traffic flowing. Within the management system of the French transport giant, designed and developed in Bologna, we integrated an advanced algorithmic component, designed to resolve traffic conflicts in real-time.

Using advanced operational research techniques, the system takes only a few seconds to develop the best strategies to change departures, routes and speed, thereby guaranteeing:

  • dynamic and responsive contingency management procedures;
  • full use of the available infrastructure;
  • service regularity even when operational limits are pushed to the maximum.

The application is an insightful example of how Optit’s AI & Data Science Accelerator can be applied to extremely complex contexts, empowering those who design the systems that keep the world moving.

ADA – Advanced Data Analytics

ADA – Advanced Data Analytics is the latest company founded by Olli Braysy, a globally recognised figure in operational research and the founder of companies such as MyOpt and Smarthera. The collaboration between ADA and Optit stems from a professional relationship that spans almost a decade, grounded in a shared scientific language and the ambition to develop outward-looking solutions.

Together, we develop advanced concepts focused on model customisation and applied experimental research. Our solutions span a range of diverse areas and markets:

  • optimising 3D bin packing to increase load capacity in complex logistics transport;
  • allocating workforce resources for biomedical equipment maintenance;
  • designing  operating theatres in Scandinavian hospitals;
  • optimising the loading and unloading of ferries in the Baltic Sea;
  • managing flows of biomass in the forestry sector;
  • designing advanced telecommunications networks with strategic positioning of antennas and repeaters;
  • building predictive models for well-being (wellness optimisation);
  • developing advanced financial algorithms for decision-making in the investment space.

Eni, a multinational oil and gas company based in Italy and a global player in the energy transition, has partnered with Optit as part of DICOX, its Digital Excellence unit.

The goal: to transform data into drivers for decision-making through the development of advanced prototypes in data science and data engineering. 

Optit’s contribution is not limited to providing technical expertise, but includes the co-design of tailor-made solutions and support for the digitalisation process, working side by side with our client to craft and validate highly specialised predictive and prescriptive tools, addressing the challenges posed by:

  • data modelling and management;
  • machine learning and predictive analysis;
  • advanced optimisation of industrial processes.

Optit’s contribution is part of a broader plan to adopt artificial intelligence as a key strategy in increasing operational efficiency, supporting industrial research and accelerating innovation.

The highly collaborative, responsive and results-oriented approach has allowed Eni to test novel approaches quickly, verifying their value and scalability while creating real prospects for increased efficiency.
