In 2019, Brivio & Viganò, one of the leading players in the field of integrated logistics and food distribution in Italy, chose Optit to develop a planning solution capable of addressing three strategic needs: route optimisation, increased operational flexibility and the leveraging of internal know-how.
The project, built using OptiLogistics, integrated the planning algorithm with the Transportation Management System (TMS), Warehouse Management System (WMS) and customer tracking systems, allowing the synergistic handling of orders, loads, vehicles and drivers. The system takes into account in real time the volumes to be transported, the availability of resources and relevant operational limitations.
Key features include:
- multi-temperature loads: management of mobile bulkheads in refrigerated vehicles to maximise saturation;
- returns and backhauls: optimisation of return journeys thanks to the integration of returns and collections;
- vehicle-driver-load matching: algorithms that integrate machine learning to recommend the best combinations, based on drivers’ experience and schedules.
The impact is significant: reduced planning times, more effective use of the fleet, process standardisation, greater operational efficiency and reduced onboarding time for new operators.
